New South Wales tackles dangerous driving after teen motorbike crash and launches safety campaign

An 18‑year‑old former teenager has been charged with ten offenses, including dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, after a multi‑vehicle motorbike crash at the City and Brunker Road intersection in Adamstown, Newcastle, on 26 November. The rider, who was 17 at the time, was treated in critical condition before being discharged, while a 14‑year‑old passenger was also hospitalised and later released. Police also charged him with using an unregistered bike, riding without a helmet and other traffic violations.

In parallel, NSW Police and Crime Stoppers have launched a road‑safety campaign in the alpine town of Jindabyne. Assistant Commissioner Joe Cassar highlighted that many drivers are “taking far too many risks”, including speeding, drug use and mobile‑phone distraction. The campaign follows Operation Snow Safe, which issued 2,200 speeding infringement notices in the previous six weeks, aiming to reduce the rise in road fatalities across regional NSW.
