New studies explore supplement and mindfulness treatments for youth anxiety

New research highlights potential dietary and behavioral interventions for managing anxiety and mental health issues in children and adolescents.

A pilot study conducted by the Stella Maris Foundation in Pisa, published in ‘Frontiers in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry’, investigated the effects of a combined supplement on 22 preschool children aged 3 to 7. The combination consisted of 75 mg of Griffonia seed extract (standardized to 15 mg of 5-HTP) and 150 mg of the milk protein Lactium daily. Results indicated a reduction in anxiety scores, with no adverse events reported during the intervention period.

In a separate study from the University of Heidelberg, researchers found that incorporating brief mindfulness exercises at the beginning of psychotherapy sessions can positively impact symptoms in adolescents dealing with depression, anxiety, and ADHD.
