New sustainable school projects launched in Germany and Austria
New educational infrastructure projects are underway in Germany and Austria, focusing on modern learning environments and sustainability.
In Heilsbronn, Germany, the Markgraf-Georg-Friedrich-Realschule has officially opened its new M-building. The two-story facility utilizes a cluster concept, where classrooms, a teacher station, and a group room are arranged around a central shared area to facilitate flexible teaching and collaborative project work. The building is designed for high energy efficiency, utilizing geothermal heat pumps and a photovoltaic system to avoid fossil fuels.
In Baden, Austria, construction has begun on a new secondary school (AHS) intended to accommodate 800 students as part of a larger educational campus. Scheduled for completion in autumn 2028, the project involves an investment of 58 million euros. The facility will emphasize sustainability and digitalization, featuring a rooftop terrace, open learning zones, and energy systems including 60 geothermal probes and a 264 kWp photovoltaic plant. The site is intended to eventually form a campus spanning from primary school to higher education.
