New Taipei City holds mass wedding for 100 couples
New Taipei City held its 2026 mass wedding event on February 5 in Xinzhuang, where 100 couples officially wed. Mayor Hou Yu-ih and Deputy Mayor Liu He-ran served as witnesses for the ceremony.
During the event, Mayor Hou emphasized the city's commitment to supporting marriage and childbearing families. He noted that 225 couples had applied for the event. To encourage population growth, the city has implemented various welfare policies, including increased childbirth subsidies: 40,000 TWD for the first child, 45,000 TWD for the second, and 50,000 TWD for the third and subsequent children.
Additional municipal support includes improving the ratio of marriage-friendly housing, providing free nutritious lunches, and enhancing public childcare and early childhood education systems. The Civil Affairs Bureau reported that six couples from previous wedding groups have already welcomed children.
