New Taipei City honors environmental heroes and cultural preservationists

New Taipei City held two major ceremonies to honor excellence in environmental protection and cultural preservation.

At the 115th Environmental Hero Awards, Mayor Hou You-yi recognized 112 individuals and groups for their contributions to sustainability and environmental beautification. Awards were distributed across categories including resource sustainability, environmental beautification, and youth environmentalism. Notable recipients included Cai Caifang for marine conservation and Deng Anbao for creating circular economy models in local communities. The city reported having 22,189 environmental volunteers as of July 2026.

Simultaneously, the 9th New Taipei Culture Awards honored individuals and organizations dedicated to preserving the region's heritage. The awards recognized Professor Lin Bao-yao for his research in Taiwanese art history, the Jimusi Museum for its commitment to art education and international exchange, the Banqiao Chaohe Society for preserving traditional North Guan music, and the Shpingxi Coal Mine Museum for its work in maintaining mining culture and history.
