New Taipei City mayoral race heats up as Li Sichuan and Su Qiaohui campaign at fishing festival

Candidates for New Taipei City mayor, Kuomintang’s Li Sichuan and Democratic Progressive Party’s Su Qiaohui, appeared together at the Bali (八里) fishing‑port festival on the morning of the campaign. Both candidates toured the venue, shook hands repeatedly and participated in a hand‑made “āgē” activity while addressing attendees.

Su outlined a “New Crown Coast” plan to upgrade 28 local fishing ports, improve dredging, expand parking and create smart‑parking facilities, and boost marine‑tourism experiences. Li emphasized his upbringing in a fishing village, pledging greater resources for port reconstruction, ice‑factory upgrades, overseas sales, and the transformation of ports into leisure‑tourism sites.

A recent poll cited by media showed Su holding a slight lead over Li, though the sample size was questioned. Both candidates said they would monitor various surveys without letting poll results dictate their campaign tone.
