New Taipei City mayoral race tightens between Li Sichuan and Su Chiao-hui
The New Taipei City mayoral election is intensifying as recent polling shows a narrow margin between the leading candidates. According to the latest ETtoday poll, Kuomintang candidate Li Sichuan holds a 39.3% support rate, slightly leading Democratic Progressive Party candidate Su Chiao-hui, who sits at 37.3%.
Political analysts note that while Li Sichuan has built a reputation for being effective at executing tasks, he faces the challenge of translating that image into perceived mayoral competence among New Taipei City residents, as his familiarity remains more concentrated in Taipei. Conversely, Su Chiao-hui benefits from established local organizational networks and support from prominent political figures.
In terms of policy, Su Chiao-hui has pledged to continue the goal of providing 52,000 social housing units through various methods, including urban renewal and transit-oriented development. She also proposed establishing a municipal-level New Taipei Labor Policy Committee and introduced childcare support measures, such as subsidies for companies creating workplace nurseries and the creation of a temporary childcare inquiry platform.
