New Taipei City receives multiple urban governance awards

The New Taipei City Government has been recognized as a 2026 Excellence City at the Common Wealth Magazine Urban Governance Awards. The city secured two first prizes and two excellence awards for its various municipal initiatives.

The Fire Department received a first prize in the Social Progress category for its emergency rescue governance model, while the Environmental Protection Bureau earned a first prize in the Environmental Protection category for its smart inspection systems. Additionally, the Education Bureau and the Agriculture Bureau/Animal Protection Department both received excellence awards in the Social Progress category.

The Agriculture Bureau’s award highlights a new safety governance model for animal protection. This initiative focuses on a five-pillar approach: safety, settlement, living, peace of mind, and life cycle management. Key achievements include a rabies vaccination rate for dogs exceeding 70 percent, the development of specialized animal shelters, and the implementation of smart technology for risk management and animal welfare.
