New Taipei City street cleaner killed in suspected drunk driving accident

A fatal traffic accident occurred in the Shulin District of New Taipei City during the early morning of September 19. A 32-year-old male rider, identified by the surname Hu, struck a 51-year-old female street cleaner, surnamed Cheng, while she was performing road sweeping duties.

Emergency responders transported both individuals to Yadan Hospital. Ms. Cheng succumbed to her injuries, while the rider was left in a semi-conscious state. Police investigations revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.15 for the rider, leading to charges of public danger. The New Taipei City Government has stated that the Environmental Protection Bureau will assist the victim's family with condolences and related support matters.

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih visited the family to offer condolences and issued a strong condemnation of drunk driving and other behaviors that jeopardize public safety.
