New Taipei father arrested for humiliating child with insulting signs
A 44-year-old man in Sanchong, New Taipei City, has been arrested for violating a protection order after a young girl was seen walking through public areas wearing signs with insulting labels such as ‘thief’ and ‘animal.’ Witnesses reported the child appeared dazed, was walking barefoot, and showed visible marks on her face and arms while being filmed by two men.
Investigations revealed that the family had been under supervision since June of last year following reports of improper discipline. Although the father had recently completed a 12-week counseling program mandated by the court, the recent incident led to his arrest. The New Taipei City Social Affairs Bureau has since placed the child in protective custody.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse, noting that psychological humiliation can cause significant damage to a child's dignity and self-esteem. Under the Family Violence Prevention Act, violating a protection order can result in up to three years of imprisonment or fines.
