New Taipei firefighter injured in Sanxia water‑play area assault

On July 26, a firefighter from the Yingge‑Fengming unit tried to stop a 49‑year‑old man, surnamed Xie, from entering a restricted section of the Toad Valley water‑play area in Sanxia District, New Taipei City. Xie, reportedly intoxicated, became angry at the warning, pushed the firefighter and punched him, causing a bruised left cheek and an abrasion on the left arm. The firefighter’s phone was also broken in the struggle.

Police arrived, arrested Xie and charged him with obstruction of official duties and assault. He was transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office for investigation. The injured firefighter sought medical treatment at Enjhu‑Gong Hospital; his injuries were assessed as non‑life‑threatening. Authorities reminded the public to obey safety warnings at water recreation sites and indicated that violations could attract fines of NT$10,000‑50,000 under the Tourism Development Act.
