New Taipei police and land office block senior fraud, cut reported scams 90%

The Zhonghe Police Department in New Taipei City identified two high‑risk groups – seniors over 60 and workers aged 29‑39 – and rolled out customized anti‑fraud education. Outreach included face‑to‑face talks at senior centres, messages printed in farmer’s almanacs, and workplace seminars on investment scams. As a result, reported fraud cases fell by more than 90%, dropping to just seven incidents in a year.

Separately, the New Taipei City Land Administration Bureau teamed with police to stop a 70‑year‑old woman's attempt to mortgage a property worth NT$7 million. After the woman twice sought to register a mortgage based on a bogus investment scheme, land officers flagged the irregularity, alerted police and the woman's family, and persuaded her to withdraw the application. The coordinated “land‑police‑social” effort, reinforced by anti‑fraud videos shown on metro screens, protected the senior’s assets and highlighted the city’s cross‑agency fraud‑prevention model.
