New Terra expands local vegetable and fruit production

Local food production at New Terra is experiencing a significant expansion, with harvests reaching unprecedented levels. In a single week, producers harvested nearly 400 kilograms of beans, tomatoes, zucchinis, and pumpkins, followed by an additional 300 kilograms of grapes, blackberries, apples, and pumpkins.

To date, approximately four tons of produce have been harvested, with an estimated ten to fifteen additional tons expected in the coming period, including potatoes, onions, eggplants, peppers, and cabbage. The weekly vegetable and fruit market at New Terra has grown from two tables in June to six fully stocked tables.

In collaboration with the Lincolnpark Buurttuin, the initiative aims to share the abundance with the community. The producer noted the challenge of managing large harvests during the summer holiday period, a time when fewer people are available to assist with food production compared to historical agricultural cycles.
