New theatrical productions debut in Mexico and Chile
New theatrical productions are set to debut in Mexico and Chile. In Mexico, Teatro UNAM will present ‘Monster Promise’, written and directed by Francisco Aurelio Sánchez and created by the AUr company. Running from September 11 to October 3 at the Teatro Santa Catarina, the play uses puppets, shadows, and dance to explore childhoods impacted by drug trafficking violence through the lens of imagination and play.
In Chile, the company Festín de la Risa will premiere ‘Adiós Mundo Cruel’ on September 15 at the Parque Cultural de Valparaíso (PCdV). Directed by Nicolás Eyzaguirre Bravo, the production uses circus and humor to examine life, death, and mourning. The play follows three unemployed clowns who organize funerals and follows an absurd sequence of events after discovering an empty coffin during a service. This production is the first of three projects resulting from the PCdV’s artistic residency program.
