New theatrical productions exploring themes of loss and end-of-life decisions are set to debut in Brazil and Portugal.

In Brazil, the play ‘O Último Ato’, written by Franz Keppler and directed by Elias Andreato, premieres on September 20 at the Teatro das Artes. Starring Eduardo Martini, the drama follows an internationally recognized painter and his partner of 43 years. The story centers on the painter's decision to seek assisted suicide due to worsening Alzheimer's symptoms, exploring themes of autonomy, dignity, and human connection.

In Portugal, the ‘4as de Teatro’ initiative returns to the Teatro das Beiras on September 23 with a performance by the Companhia de Teatro de Almada. The production, ‘Um adeus mais-que-perfeito’, is an adaptation of Peter Handke’s autobiographical work. Directed by Teresa Gafeira, the play examines the writer's relationship with his mother and her eventual suicide, set against the historical backdrop of Central Europe and the Second World War.
