New theatrical solo performances debut in Brazil
New theatrical productions are arriving in Brazil, focusing on complex female experiences and literary adaptations.
Carolina Chalita stars in and wrote the monologue ‘Eu matei Sherazade, confissões de uma árabe em fúria’, based on the work of Lebanese author Joumana Haddad. The play explores the intersection of Arab and Western perspectives on women and critiques the patriarchal structures often associated with the character Scheherazade. The production will hold free sessions at the Centro Cultural do Poder Judiciário in Rio de Janeiro on October 6, 7, 13, and 14.
Additionally, actress Mariana Santos will debut the solo performance ‘Morra, Amor’ at Teatro TotalEnergies – Sala Adolpho Bloch starting October 9. Directed by Victor Garcia Peralta, the play is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz. The performance examines themes of motherhood, domestic isolation, and the psychological tension between social expectations and primitive instincts through the story of a woman living in rural France.
