New traffic enforcement systems implemented in Argentina and Spain
Local authorities in Argentina and Spain are implementing new electronic traffic monitoring systems to improve road safety.
In Empedrado, Corrientes, city councilors approved an ordinance to create a Municipal Electronic Preventive Inspection and Road Safety System on National Route 12. The system will use speed cameras and devices to check for mandatory lights. Implementation is subject to technical approval from the National Road Safety Agency and the National Road Directorate. The municipality is authorized to contract the provision and maintenance of the equipment for a four-year period, with a clause stating that contractor remuneration cannot be based on a percentage of collected fines.
In Navarra, Spain, a new fixed speed camera on the A-12 near Zizur Mayor has received official authorization to begin issuing fines starting Friday, October 16. The device, located at kilometer 5.948, has been in a testing phase for several months. The Government of Navarra maintains that the installation is a deterrent measure intended to reduce accidents at critical intersections and urban access points.
