New university rectors assume leadership in Chile and Panama
New leadership transitions have taken place at two major universities in Chile and Panama.
In Chile, Dr. Pablo Camus Galleguillos has officially assumed the role of Rector at the Universidad de Antofagasta. Succeeding Dr. Marcos Cikutovic Salas, Camus Galleguillos outlined a four-year plan focused on academic excellence, research, innovation, and strengthening the institution's connection to regional needs. The outgoing rector noted that his term helped increase the university's assets and maintain accreditation standards.
In Panama, Absel Navarro has been elected as the new Rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí (Unachi). His administration, set to begin on August 31, faces significant pressure from the academic community to implement transparency and ethical management. Following a period described by some faculty as lacking openness, stakeholders are calling for improved dialogue, better budget management, and the restoration of the institution's prestige.
