New vintage-inspired 50mm lenses announced for Leica M-mount

Two new specialized 50mm lenses for Leica M-mount cameras have been announced, both focusing on vintage optical characteristics rather than modern clinical sharpness.

Mandler is releasing the 50mm f/1.4 E46 PRE-ASPH, a recreation of the legendary Leica Summilux-M design from the 1990s. The lens uses a pure spherical double-Gauss structure with seven elements in five groups, incorporating ED low-dispersion and HRI high-refractive-index glass. It features 12 aperture blades and a 46mm filter size. Two versions are available: a black aluminum alloy body priced at approximately $280 (1,888 RMB) and a silver copper body with chrome plating priced at approximately $400 (2,688 RMB).

DK-Optic has launched the Chiaro 50mm f/1.9, inspired by the 1930s British Dallmeyer Super Six 2-inch F1.9 lens. Designed to provide soft tonal transitions and a natural sense of depth, the lens offers different personalities depending on the aperture setting. Two limited-edition versions—a Blue Coating model for contrast and an uncoated version for flare and glow—are being released, with only 150 units available worldwide for each version at a price of $1,599.
