New web tool tracks Renfe train delays in Spain

A new free web application named Vía Libre, developed by Álvaro Hernández, allows users to monitor the real-time location and delay status of Renfe trains via an interactive map. The tool was created in just a few hours by utilizing publicly available data regarding train positions provided by Renfe.

During a snapshot taken on Thursday, October 29, at 20:27, the platform showed that 93 out of 119 monitored trains were experiencing delays, representing a 78.2% delay rate at that specific moment. The application incorporates incident reports from Adif and uses a color-coded system to distinguish between trains running on schedule and those with delays.

The tool covers various services, including AVE, Avlo, Avant, Alvia, Euromed, Intercity, Media Distancia, and regional trains. The data captured occurred during a period of locomotive driver strikes, which caused cancellations and service alterations across the network, including the Levante corridor.
