Gerard Saunders charged in international child exploitation case
A New Westminster man, Gerard Saunders, has been charged with multiple child sexual exploitation offences following an international investigation. The probe, initiated in June 2023 by the New Westminster Police Department's Major Crime Unit and the RCMP's integrated child exploitation unit, began after child sexual abuse material was traced to an IP address at a residence in New Westminster.
As a result of the investigation, five children were identified and rescued in the Philippines. Additionally, authorities in the Philippines arrested the children’s mother in connection with child sexual exploitation offences.
Saunders faces charges including possession of child sexual abuse material, making exploitation material, and arranging to lure a child. He has been released on an undertaking subject to extensive conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on October 7.
