New Winneba land dispute clashes leave three dead

Violent clashes in New Winneba, triggered by a long-standing land dispute between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and Effutu, have resulted in at least three deaths and approximately 15 to 19 injuries, including a police officer.

Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) have issued a joint appeal for peace, stating they will work together to resolve tensions and engage affected communities. Former Gomoa Central MP Rachel Appoh also called for restraint, noting that the dispute has been a matter of legal contention since at least 2012.

Police have arrested six suspects in connection with the violence and have launched an investigation. Additional security personnel have been deployed to the Central Region to maintain order and prevent further escalation.
