New York City offers 1,000 discounted US Open tickets to residents

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) have partnered to offer 1,000 discounted US Open tickets to city residents. Priced at $100 each, the tickets are intended to improve accessibility to the tournament amid rising costs and high resale prices on platforms like Ticketmaster.

The tickets, which are available to residents with a valid NYC ZIP code, cover main draw matches held between August 30 and September 8. They include access to major venues such as Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium, as well as grounds passes. Each resident is limited to a maximum of two tickets, sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Demand for the offer was immense. Reports indicate that hundreds of thousands of people joined the online queue within minutes of the sale beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26. Some screenshots showed waiting lists exceeding 300,000 to 500,000 users. The initiative follows similar efforts by the Mamdani administration to provide affordable access to major sporting events, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
