New York City chefs organized relief efforts for Ground Zero workers after 9/11

Following the September 11 attacks, New York City's restaurant community organized a massive relief effort known as ‘Operation Chefs with Spirit’. Led by figures such as chef Don Pintabona of the Tribeca Grill, the initiative provided around-the-clock food service to Ground Zero workers for two months.

Pintabona, who witnessed the destruction of the World Trade Center from his home in Brooklyn, described the operation as a spontaneous collective effort driven by a desire to help the city. The initiative relied on the quick thinking and generosity of thousands of New Yorkers to sustain those working at the site of the attacks.
