New York City concludes Summer Streets festival in Bronx and Brooklyn

The 19th edition of the Summer Streets festival has concluded in New York City. Organized by the Department of Transportation to promote healthy mobility, the event involved closing major corridors in the Bronx and Brooklyn to vehicular traffic to make room for pedestrians, cyclists, and runners.

In the Bronx, activities were concentrated along Grand Concourse, featuring musical performances by the Bronx Council on the Arts and Latin American folk groups, as well as fitness classes and climbing activities. A marathon held in the district saw participation from approximately 1,700 people.

In Brooklyn, the event spanned a 2.5-mile stretch connecting Prospect Park to Crown Heights. The area near the Brooklyn Museum hosted art workshops and musical performances featuring jazz, soul, and Caribbean percussion. Cyclists utilized Citi Bike services, which offered discounts during the event. Throughout both districts, organizers provided hydration stations and medical assistance to ensure public safety during the heat.
