Sayed Mohassib charged with murder in Brooklyn jogger killing

Sayed Mohassib, 27, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of 28-year-old Katie Suarez. The attack occurred on October 30 along the Shore Parkway Greenway in Brooklyn while Suarez was jogging.

Police arrested Mohassib at his New York City home after detectives linked him to the scene. According to investigators, Mohassib admitted to being covered in blood but claimed he had no memory of the attack due to a blackout. Authorities allege he discarded the murder weapon, which was later traced to a landfill.

Mohassib, a former NYPD employee and former Marine, was most recently employed as a teacher’s aide at P.S. 200 in Bensonhurst for the New York City Department of Education. The Department of Education has suspended Mohassib and stated they will move to terminate his employment. While both Mohassib and Suarez attended Brooklyn College, police have not confirmed a prior relationship between them.
