New York City early voting kicks off as Democratic Socialists target congressional primaries

Early voting in New York City began with polls open at locations such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art. By the weekend, more than 115,000 votes had been cast across the five boroughs, with Manhattan contributing nearly 50,000 ballots. Mayor Zohran Mamdani voted at the Met and declined to disclose his choices.

At the same time, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are expanding their focus from local races to high‑profile House contests. Representative Hakeem Jeffries appeared in Manhattan to support incumbent Adriano Espaillat against DSA‑backed challenger Darializa Avila Chevalier. The DSA chapter in New York City has endorsed candidates in ten state and federal primaries, the largest slate in its history, and is mobilizing volunteers from the mayoral campaign to aid its congressional ambitions.
