New York City honors nonprofit leaders during NYC Nonprofit Week
New York City celebrated NYC Nonprofit Week by recognizing the essential role community-based organizations play in strengthening the city’s social safety net. The week included the second annual Excellence in Human Services Delivery Awards held at Gracie Mansion, which honored eight winners across five categories, including nonprofits, public servants, and municipal agencies.
Among the honorees was the Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation (NMIC), which received the Action & Innovation Award for its settlement-house model serving approximately 14,000 people in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx. Other recognitions included city staff such as Jackie Roth from the Administration for Children’s Services.
Additionally, the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice visited the Youth Justice Network (YJN) to present a certificate of appreciation. Data from the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice indicates that YJN’s mentorship and advocacy programs significantly reduce recidivism, with a one-year rearrest rate of 13% compared to the citywide rate of 53%.
