New York City issues $191 water bill credits to 70,000 homeowners

More than 70,000 homeowners in New York City have been identified to receive a $191 credit on their water and sewer bills. The credit is applied automatically through the Home Water Assistance Program and does not require an application.

To qualify, homeowners of one- to four-family houses must meet at least one of four criteria established by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Eligible groups include those who received heating assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) for the 2025-2026 season, or those with approved property tax exemptions for seniors (SCHE), individuals with disabilities (DHE), or veterans for the 2026 fiscal year.

The DEP selected eligible households in coordination with the Human Resources Administration and the Department of Finance. The $191 credit will appear on the first DEP bill received after the credits are applied.
