New York City launches major Trick-or-Streets and Biketober programs
New York City is launching several large-scale community initiatives throughout October, led by the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT).
The Trick-or-Streets program is returning with its largest edition to date, featuring 160 car-free streets and plazas across the five boroughs. The program offers free activities for families, including trick-or-treating, music, and games. New additions include guided tours by the Municipal Art Society of New York to explore local architecture and history. Specific events are scheduled in Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens, and Manhattan.
Simultaneously, the NYC DOT is promoting its annual Biketober campaign to encourage sustainable mobility and cycling safety. The initiative includes self-guided routes to showcase the city's expanding bike lane network, community festivals, and the distribution of free protective gear. To promote urban cycling culture, the agency has also partnered with local fashion brand Only NY to release themed apparel.
