New York City Mayor criticizes US arms shipments to Israel amid Gaza crisis

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has issued a statement regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza, marking three years since the October 7 attacks. Mamdani noted that while the initial attacks by Hamas resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and the kidnapping of 251 people, the suffering has continued through what he described as a genocide in Gaza.

Mamdani reported that more than 74,000 Palestinians have died, including over 21,000 children. He criticized the United States federal government for its complicity through arms shipments and highlighted the humanitarian crisis, including attacks on ambulances and the rejection of food aid at border crossings.

In a related account of the humanitarian impact, Abdulá Nabhan, a survivor of an Israeli bombardment in northern Gaza, described the extreme conditions faced by civilians. Nabhan recounted being mistakenly placed in a morgue for two days after an attack that resulted in the amputation of his legs. He also highlighted the severe food shortages and hyperinflation in Gaza, noting that basic goods like sugar reached unprecedented prices during the siege.
