New York City Mayor demands end to ICE operations after Bronx shooting
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and wounded a Dominican migrant in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. The incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. local time while agents were attempting an arrest. The victim was reportedly in a vehicle accompanied by a five-year-old child, though the minor was unharmed. The wounded individual was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the incident ‘inadmissible and extremely grave,’ demanding that President Donald Trump end ICE operations within the city. Mamdani reported attempting to negotiate the release of the individual via telephone with the President and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, but stated the negotiations were unsuccessful as ICE agents moved the man into a vehicle and departed the scene.
The shooting triggered immediate protests in the Bronx, where demonstrators confronted federal agents and police. During the unrest, some protesters directed criticism toward Mayor Mamdani, accusing him of being complicit.
