New York City museums undergo major expansions and renovations

Cultural institutions in New York City are undergoing significant expansions and renovations. On the Lower East Side, a new 40,000-square-foot contemporary art space named Canyon is expected to open next year. Founded by philanthropist Robert Rosenkranz and led by director Joe Thompson, the $40 million project features 18,000 square feet of galleries, a 60-foot-tall skylit atrium, and dining facilities. The venue will focus on video, sound, and performance, opening with the exhibition ‘Worldbuilding’ curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist.

In the Bronx, the Bronx Museum has initiated a $43 million renovation and expansion project. Led by the architecture firm Marvel, the development aims to redesign the entrance and lobby to improve the institution's street-level presence and community engagement through a new glass façade and reimagined interior circulation.
