New York City officials partner to combat economic crimes

The New York City Mayor’s Office and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office have entered into a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in combating economic crimes. This partnership aims to accelerate investigations and sanctions against individuals or entities violating the economic rights of New Yorkers.

The alliance will focus on addressing wage theft, tenant harassment, and scams targeting migrants. By sharing information, data, and investigative strategies, the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office intend to more rapidly identify illegal practices and bring offenders to justice.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that the administration will pursue those who steal wages, harass tenants, or exploit migrant status as criminal acts. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. emphasized that the cooperation will strengthen the authorities' response to bad actors targeting vulnerable residents.
