New York City plans four new greenways in outer boroughs
New York City officials have announced plans to develop four new greenways across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and southern Queens. The initiative aims to improve connectivity between neighborhoods, parks, employment hubs, and waterfront areas through dedicated corridors for walking, running, and cycling.
The project is a collaborative effort involving the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT), the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The planning process is scheduled to begin this autumn, with workshops for the remaining three corridors expected to start in 2027.
The first phase of public engagement will focus on the Bronx Waterfront Greenway, a proposed 15-mile route connecting Randall’s Island Park to SUNY Maritime. Community workshops are scheduled for November 4 and December 3 to gather resident feedback on the current conditions and design of the corridor.
