New York City police investigate five individuals emerging from Upper East Side manhole
Police are investigating a suspicious incident in Manhattan after five individuals emerged from a manhole on the Upper East Side early Friday morning. Around 2:10 a.m., witnesses reported seeing four men and one woman climbing out of a steamy pit near 82nd Street and East End Avenue before fleeing the scene in a black truck.
The motive for the group's actions remains unknown. This event follows a series of similar sewer-diving incidents across New York City. Last month, two men were arrested for exploring the underground system beneath an Upper East Side hotel. Additionally, a trio of individuals wearing overalls and headlamps was spotted emerging from the ground near Madison Square Garden earlier this summer. No arrests have been made in connection with Friday's sighting.
