New York City records wettest August in five years

A series of powerful storms has contributed to the heavy precipitation, including a flash storm that dropped nearly three inches of rain in a single day and turned streets into rivers.

Recent rainfall has caused localized flooding across the five boroughs, particularly following a heavy downpour on a Sunday that lasted approximately three hours. While these totals surpass the rainfall recorded in the previous four years, they remain below the record-setting August of 2011, which saw 18.95 inches of rain in Central Park during Tropical Storm Irene.

Meteorologists indicate that the month is not yet finished, with additional chances for scattered showers and localized flooding expected later in the week.
