New York City subway assault leaves 90-year-old professor injured
Dr. C. G. Wang, a 90-year-old former astrophysics professor, is recovering at NYU Langone Tisch Hospital after being shoved from a southbound subway train in New York City. The incident occurred on October 6 around 1 p.m. as the visually impaired scholar attempted to exit at the Lexington Avenue and East 53rd Street station.
Dr. Wang reported that after politely asking a stranger to move so he could reach the door near the escalator, he was pushed with such force that he flew out of the train. The fall resulted in multiple broken bones, requiring an emergency hip replacement surgery. Dr. Wang, who had never been hospitalized before the attack, had maintained an active academic life and independent commuting routine prior to the assault.
The NYPD has released surveillance imagery of a suspect believed to be between 40 and 50 years old with a medium build, wearing a black jacket and a black baseball cap. Investigators are seeking the individual, who fled the scene in an unknown direction following the attack.
