New York communities hold Mid-Autumn and National Day celebrations

Various cultural and national celebrations took place across New York this week. In Flushing, the sixth annual China Day and Mid-Autumn Festival parade featured lion and dragon dances, traditional ethnic costumes, and large crowds observing the festivities.

Simultaneously, the overseas Chinese community held multiple events to commemorate the 115th National Day of the Republic of China (Taiwan). In Queens, a large celebration included flag-raising ceremonies, performances by various community groups, and a food fair showcasing Taiwanese, Hakka, and Southeast Asian cuisine. Representatives noted Taiwan's role as a significant democratic partner and its economic importance as a major trading partner to the United States.

In Manhattan's Chinatown, preparations are underway for further National Day observances on October 10, which will include a flag-raising ceremony at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, a flower-laying ceremony at the Sun Yat-sen statue, and a parade.
