New York communities host school supply drives for students

Community organizations in New York are conducting school supply drives to assist families ahead of the upcoming academic year.

In Bayside, New York State Senator John Liu concluded a donation drive that collected over 400 backpacks filled with supplies. These items will be distributed to local community and tenant organizations, including the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Macedonia AME Church, and the Pomonok Residents Association. The initiative was supported by various local businesses and institutions, such as the Queens Public Library and Con Edison.

In Rochester, New York, the Boys and Girls Club held a giveaway providing over 400 backpacks to local residents. The event, supported by News10NBC’s Big Give and community donations, provided essential items like notebooks, folders, and glue. Participants noted that the giveaway helps alleviate the financial burden of school shopping for families.
