New York Democrats Stage Spanish Debate as AOC Mulls Presidential Bid

Telemundo 47 will host a one‑hour Spanish‑language debate on June 17 for the four Democratic candidates seeking the U.S. House seat for New York’s 13th congressional district. Incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat will be joined by Darializa Ávila Chevalier, Theo Chino‑Tavárez and Óscar Romero. The debate will be streamed live on Telemundo 47’s digital platforms and YouTube, with a televised replay on June 21 during an hour‑long edition of the program Enfoque. The network said the event aims to give voters, especially in the district’s north‑Manhattan and Bronx Hispanic communities, clear information on the candidates’ positions.

Separately, Representative Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez said she has not ruled out running as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. presidency in 2028. In an interview she emphasized that universal health‑care coverage remains her top priority, and noted a recent poll showing her ahead of Vice President Kam ala Harris in a hypothetical matchup. She is considered a possible front‑runner as the Democratic Party looks for high‑profile candidates.
