New York deploys 40 speed cameras in work zones

New York has deployed 40 automated speed cameras across 23 roads as part of the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement program. These cameras are positioned in active construction zones to protect highway workers and slow down traffic.

The enforcement program captures speeding vehicles and license plates automatically, with violators receiving notices by mail. Fines for violations are structured as follows: $50 for a first offense, $75 for a second offense within 18 months, and $100 for third and subsequent violations within the same period.

Locations for the week of August 9 to August 15 include various counties such as Bronx, Erie, Monroe, Onondaga, and Queens, among others. Officials emphasize that slowing down is the most effective way to avoid tickets and ensure the safety of road crews.
