New York Fashion Week begins with 70 shows and fur ban

New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has commenced for the Spring/Summer 2027 season, featuring approximately 70 runway shows and presentations. A major policy shift this year includes a total ban on the use of animal fur by official participants, as mandated by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

Key designer highlights include Ralph Lauren, who opened the week with a collection focused on navy and white tones, and Tommy Hilfiger, who presented a “Prep Made Current” collection at the Hotel Plaza. Tory Burch also showcased vibrant, colorful prints and textures. The event is seeing a significant rise in creator and influencer involvement, with talent agencies managing large rosters of digital creators to drive engagement.

Beyond the runways, the week features various cultural activations, including a fragrance launch by Ice Spice and immersive exhibitions such as Szilveszter Makó’s “Bauhaus Ballet.” The season is also marked by a strong presence of international talent, with 26 Latin American brands participating to showcase regional creativity on a global stage.
