New York Giants acquire QB J. J. McCarthy from Vikings
The New York Giants have acquired quarterback J. J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick. The trade, which is pending McCarthy passing a physical, comes as the Giants seek depth following a season-ending knee injury to starting quarterback Jaxson Dart.
McCarthy, the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, spent his time in Minnesota struggling with injuries and competition, eventually falling to third on the depth chart behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz. In New York, McCarthy is expected to serve as a backup to veteran Jameis Winston, who remains the starter for the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh expressed excitement about the addition, noting McCarthy’s talent and experience. While the move provides immediate insurance, the organization maintains that Jaxson Dart remains the franchise quarterback of the future.
