New York Giants defensive coordinator criticizes players
New York Giants defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson has issued a sharp critique of his unit following a 27-34 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Wilson characterized players who lacked sufficient intensity and effort as “traitors to the defense.”
According to Next Gen Stats, the Giants committed 18 missed tackles during the game, with twelve different players recording at least one error. Wilson noted that such lack of effort is unacceptable and indicated that the coaching staff may reconsider the roles of players who do not improve their attitude and execution. He emphasized that mistakes will be reviewed via video analysis and that there are “no excuses” for a lack of hustle.
The criticism comes at a difficult time for the Giants' defense, which is already dealing with significant injuries, including the loss of linebacker Tremaine Edmunds for the remainder of the season. The team faces an immediate challenge against the Houston Texans, an offense that has scored over 30 points in each of its last two games.
