New York Giants release running back Najee Harris

The New York Giants have released veteran running back Najee Harris following a performance in which he recorded four carries for two yards during a 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Harris, 28, was signed in August to increase physicality in the backfield but recorded only 99 yards on 31 carries over five games.

Head coach John Harbaugh stated the decision was based on roster management and the team's direction rather than personal motives. Harbaugh noted that the team found it difficult to carry four running backs and challenged the remaining players to claim the starting position. The Giants will proceed with three running backs: Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary.

Harris is the third prominent veteran released by Harbaugh since the initial 53-man roster was announced, following Odell Beckham Jr. and Darius Slayton. The coaching staff's approach emphasizes accountability and performance-based roster changes.
