New York Giants Training Camp Highlights Beckham Jr.'s Role and Rookie Injuries

The New York Giants disclosed that rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields suffered a minor injury during training camp, joining a group of four players, including Pro Bowl edge rusher Brian Burns and slot cornerback Dru Phillips, dealing with minor issues. Veteran wideout Odell Beckham Jr., 33, who has missed the 2025 season and undergone two ACL surgeries, received an “important” update as he worked with the starting rotation, posted several catches in drills and nearly scored a touchdown in scrimmage. Beckham, who signed with the Giants in June after a year away from football and a stint with the Miami Dolphins in 2024, said the break allowed him to refocus on family before returning to the field.

Beckham aims to solidify a roster spot despite competition from younger receivers such as Malik Nabers, whose own ACL recovery timeline remains uncertain. Head coach John Harbaugh highlighted the depth concerns at receiver and noted the importance of Beckham’s contributions as the Giants seek to improve a passing game that has lacked a reliable deep threat.
