Kathy Hochul wins reelection as New York Governor

Democrat Kathy Hochul has secured reelection as the Governor of New York, defeating Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman. Hochul, who first assumed office in August 2021 following the resignation of Andrew Cuomo, will serve a second full four-year term starting January 1, 2027.

Blakeman, the Nassau County Executive, campaigned on issues such as lowering taxes, reducing the cost of living, and strengthening law enforcement. Despite his support from Donald Trump and strong ties to Orthodox Jewish communities, he was unable to overcome Hochul’s significant margin of victory.

The election results also include the election of Adrienne Adams as Lieutenant Governor, marking the first all-woman gubernatorial ticket in New York history. Other notable Democratic victories included Attorney General Letitia James and several congressional representatives in New York City.

In the 6th Congressional District, Republican Michael Rulli successfully defended his seat, defeating Democrat Elizabeth Kirtley with 59% of the vote.
