New York hospitals rank among worst in U.S. for patient experience

A study by iFax analyzing federal survey data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has ranked New York State as the third-worst in the nation for hospital patient experience. The analysis, which evaluated 134 hospitals in the state, found that New York hospitals averaged 2.76 out of 5 stars, falling below the national average of 3.29.

The rankings are based on patient feedback regarding cleanliness, responsiveness, communication with medical staff, and overall experience. Only Florida and New Jersey received lower average ratings than New York. Within the state, hospitals in the Mid-Hudson Valley, Long Island, and the Capital Region reported the highest scores, while those in New York City, the Finger Lakes, and the Mohawk Valley received the lowest.

Performance varied significantly by hospital type: veterans' hospitals led with a 3.5 average, non-profit hospitals averaged 2.6, and government-owned facilities scored 1.7.
