New York hosts world's largest India Day Parade
The 44th annual India Day Parade, described as the largest event of its kind in the world, took place on Madison Avenue in New York City. Centered on the theme ‘Harmony in Heritage’, the event drew approximately 200,000 participants and spectators who gathered to celebrate Indian culture and the contributions of the Indian diaspora.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul led the parade, expressing pride in the rich culture brought to the city by the vibrant community. The celebration featured 36 floats representing India’s religious and cultural diversity, as well as Indian-American businesses, media, and NGOs. Notable guests included actress Pooja Hegde and Adivi Sesh, who participated in the procession.
The parade also served as a symbolic commemoration of the 80th anniversary of India’s independence and the 250th anniversary of the United States, noting the shared history of both nations in their struggles against colonial rule. The event, organized by the Federation of Indian Associations, concluded with music and dance performances.
